60 km - Bear Trail
Our premier route, the 60 km Bear Trail, follows the legendary Roška footpath—marked with bear paw prints—multiple times as it navigates Kočevsko's wild landscapes. The adventure begins at Rudniško Lake before heading directly into the deep, mysterious forests that define the region.
Once you leave the town of Kočevje behind, you’ll be surrounded by pristine wilderness, punctuated only by tiny villages and historical sites along the way.
One of the trail’s true highlights is its passage along the edge of the Rajhenav rainforest—take your time here to appreciate the extraordinary old-growth trees and let the atmosphere of the forest sink in.
From there, you’ll traverse the Kočevski Rog plateau and pass Kraljica Roga, the plateau’s most majestic fir standing an impressive 51 meters tall.
Above the village of Onek, at Lovski vrh, you’ll soak in spectacular views and catch sight of the finish at Rudniško Lake, where a refreshing swim awaits.
Kočevsko will leave a lasting impression, and we’re sure you’ll want to return to these fantastic trails.
Come and experience a destination that's both wild and warmly inviting!
Vertical Fridrihštajn
Fridrihštajn Castle sits atop a 978-metre hill, offering panoramic views over Kočevje. Built in the 15th century, only the restored ruins remain today, protected from further decay.
Both climbers and hikers can reach the castle via a short, steeper route or an easier hiking trail, making it a favourite among outdoor enthusiasts.
This prominent hill is the perfect setting for an exciting vertical challenge! Starting from the MTB centre in Kočevje, you’ll tackle a 2.6-kilometre route that climbs almost 500 vertical metres, culminating in a spectacular viewpoint at the castle’s ruins.
Friday’s vertical race is an excellent way to warm up for Saturday’s run or simply enjoy a rewarding sunset hike. With no time limits, the course is accessible—even for hikers looking for a memorable ascent.
