The Jumla Rara Ultra Marathon, a distinguished 51-kilometer race in Nepal. The marathon begins at Jumla Bazaar, situated at 2,305 meters, and concludes at Rara Lake, at an elevation of 2,990 meters. This challenging yet stunning course provides a global stage for local athletes to compete with national and international runners. Beyond being a race, it’s a tribute to endurance, culture, and community, highlighting Nepal’s rich heritage and talent on the global scene. Course details
Challenging Ascents & Descents – Runners navigate steep trails, rugged mountain paths, and high-altitude terrains, testing endurance and resilience.
Forests & Scenic Trails – The course passes through dense pine, oak, and rhododendron forests, offering breathtaking views of the Karnali region’s untouched wilderness.
Traditional Villages & Local Culture – The route winds through remote villages, Temples, Stupas providing a glimpse into the unique lifestyle and warm hospitality of the Jumli people.
High Passes & Alpine Landscapes – The trail features challenging climbs with panoramic views of the Rara, the largest lake of Nepal, snow-capped Himalayas of Nepal and China, making it both demanding and rewarding.
Finish at Rara Lake (2,990m) – The race concludes at Nepal’s largest and most pristine lake, surrounded by the stunning Rara National Park, offering a picturesque and serene finish line.

How do I get to the race location?
To ensure the best race experience, we strongly recommend arriving in Jumla at least a week before the race for proper acclimatization and training. Best Travel Options to Reach Jumla: From Kathmandu: Take a direct flight or bus to Surkhet, the most convenient transit point. From Surkhet, daily jeep services are available to Jumla (approx. 7–8 hours drive). From Other Cities: Travel by bus to Surkhet, then take a jeep to Jumla. Flights to Jumla: While there are flights from Nepalgunj to Jumla, they do not have fixed schedules, making them unreliable. For a more efficient and convenient journey, we recommend traveling to Surkhet first by flight or bus, then taking a jeep to Jumla.
