Northside Hospital Orthopedic Institute Half Marathon

In breve

Distanza Maratona

Informazioni Northside Hospital Orthopedic Institute Half Marathon

Jeff Galloway — a runner, Olympic athlete and entrepreneur — has done just about everything under the sun when it comes to running, as both the first winner of Atlanta’s annual July 4th Peachtree Road Race and hundreds upon hundreds of marathons and other distance races under his belt.

He was a member of the 1972 Olympic team in the 10,000 meters, an All-American collegiate athlete at Wesleyan University, and today is the city’s unofficial ambassador of running, having started the Phidippides running stores and a series of training programs that turn hundreds of people into runners every year.

The only thing he hadn’t done was start his own race — until now. The annual Jeff Galloway 13.1 Half Marathon is set to run in mid-December, along with the Barb’s 5K, presumably named for his wife Barbara.

Atlanta’s best race course! JG 13.1 winds you through Midtown and takes you to some of Atlanta’s famous landmarks. An enjoyable course that finishes in historic Piedmont Park.

Attrattive

Atlanta’s best race course! JG 13.1 winds you through Midtown and takes you to some of Atlanta’s famous landmarks. An enjoyable course that finishes in historic Piedmont Park.

Midtown Atlanta has long been known as the heart of the arts for Atlanta, and for good reason. It’s home to both the High Museum of Art and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, as well as many other cultural institutions, but Midtown Atlanta is just as well known for housing Piedmont Park, one of the largest green spaces in the city. The area’s trendy boutiques and chic nightlife lend style to Midtown, where morning, noon or night, there‘s always something going on.

Panoramica

When runners line up at the starting line, they’ll head out from 11th Street in Midtown Atlanta, just a block away from the Margaret Mitchell House & Museum, the home where the legendary author of “Gone With the Wind” lived nearly a century ago. From there, the course heads across Peachtree Street and turns onto Juniper, and heads south for the next several blocks.

The next few miles unfold through some of Atlanta’s most historic neighborhoods, as Midtown gives way to the historic Fourth Ward, including a couple of miles along the Freedom Parkway and a stretch past the Carter Center, the presidential library of former President Jimmy Carter.

Once they make it up and down the Freedom Parkway Trail, runners then head onto the Eastside Beltline Trail, the first completed section on an old rail corridor of a planned multi-use trail and park system that will wind throughout the city (one day) when it’s finished. After that, there’s a loop around the Virginia-Highlands neighborhood, and then the course heads into Piedmont Park.

This 189-acre park, which lies next to the Atlanta Botanical Garden, is the crown jewel of Atlanta’s parks. Runners will make their way all the way around it, along 10th and up Piedmont, before running through the park’s paved trails on the way to the athletic field oval, where they’ll cross the race finish line.
