The Iditarod Trail Invitational follows the historic Iditarod Trail from Knik (home of the Joe Redington Sr.) to the interior village of McGrath, across the Interior and along the Yukon River and to the coast all the way to Nome, The famous sled dog route runs 1000 miles through frozen Alaska every winter since 1973 in memory of those brave individuals who brought the important serum to Nome in 1925 during a diphterie outbreak and was started by the famous Joe Redington Sr.

The Iditarod Trail Invitational is a foot race, mountainbike race and ski race all in one race with two distances 350 miles to McGrath and 1,000 miles all the way to Nome. The 1,000 mile race is the world’s longest human powered winter ultra race. The short race 350 miles finishes in the interior village of McGrath on the Kuskokwim River. The only support provided to the racers is three snow machines in front of the leaders. The rules are simple. You take care of yourself regardless of the conditions and You can pick any route You like as long as you pass the mandatory checkpoints along the way.
