LBJ National Grasslands
White-tailed deer, small mammals, coyotes, bobcats, red fox, waterfowl, bobwhite quail, turkey and songbirds thrive in the diverse habitats provided by the grasslands. Large mouth bass, blue catfish, channel catfish and perch are common catches in the many lakes. In spring, migratory neotropical birds from Central and South America make their way across the grasslands, and wildflowers blanket the gently rolling hills in color.
The national grasslands in Texas are part of the western and eastern cross-timbers vegetation type, with both hardwood forests and open grasslands. The national grasslands provide recreation areas and lakes for camping, swimming, hunting, fishing and habitat for wildlife. This makes for a fairly easy and maneuverable trail and promises to be a very exciting and slightly challenging run. The scenic views and the presence of the beautiful wildlife will make this a very memorable experience.
The Grasslands Trail Run was started in 1999 by Suzi Cope, the first woman to complete the Grand Slam of Ultrarunning.
The Grasslands Trail Runs is now part of Texas Trail Running Championship Series
