Join Gaelforce Great River Swim 2026
Discover the thrill of open water swimming with the Gaelforce Great River Swim, an unforgettable adventure through the scenic River Shannon in Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands. Set against breathtaking natural beauty, this event welcomes swimmers of all abilities—whether you’re a newcomer searching for your first downstream swim or an experienced athlete seeking an endurance challenge. Participants can choose their ideal distance, each designed to offer a unique journey along the river’s winding bends and gentle currents.
Safety and support are top priorities, with dedicated kayakers, safety boats, and a medical team ensuring peace of mind throughout the course. All swimmers are required to use tow-floats, with wetsuit requirements depending on water temperatures. Proof of previous swimming experience is needed for the longer distances to ensure readiness for this rewarding experience.
As the opening event in the Gaelforce Great Swim Trilogy, it's also part of a larger adventure—complete all three swims to earn a special reward and celebrate your swimming achievements.
