Informazioni Rapa-Nui Easter Island Marathon

Few areas in the world possess a more mystical pull than this tiny speck of land, one of the most isolated places on Earth. It’s hard to feel connected to Chile, over 3700km to the east, let alone the wider world. Endowed with the most logic-defying statues in the world – the strikingly familiar moai – Easter Island (Rapa Nui to its native Polynesian inhabitants) emanates a magnetic, mysterious vibe.

But Easter Island is much more than an open-air museum. Diving, snorkeling and surfing are fabulous. On land, there’s no better ecofriendly way to experience the island’s savage beauty than on foot, from a bike saddle or on horseback. But if all you want to do is recharge the batteries, a couple of superb expanses of white sand beckon.

Although Easter Island is world famous and visitors are on the increase, everything remains small and personable – it’s all about eco-travel. With that being said, the Easter Island Marathon/Maraton Rapa Nui is the place to be.

Come and Join a Mystic Marathon!!

The annual Easter Island Marathon, half-marathon and 10K is scheduled for June. There is a strong response from the islanders and mainland Chile over the years. Easter Island Marathon welcomed runners from around the world. Around the world they will come but never in large numbers. Due to limited air seats and hotel accommodations on the tiny island, the event must cap its entries at 180.

Easter Island, or Rapa Nui as it is known by islanders, is famous for its more than 800 imposing stone statues which punctuate the landscape. On average, the colossal monoliths, or moai, stand 13 feet high and weigh 14 tons - human heads on torsos in the male form carved form from rough hardened volcanic ash.

How many running events can boast views of moai seen in the distance? Wild horses, wayward cows and tourist-loving dogs will also keep you company along the course.

This out-and-back course begins in the center of Hanga Roa, the main town on the island and runs through the middle of the island to Anakena Beach where it turns around. The course is considered to be mostly flat at the beginning and end of the race and rather hilly during the middle miles. Water stops are every 5km. There will also be an "aid truck" with water, bananas, cookies, etc. that will run along the course. Be prepared to encounter cows or wild horses along the course. The local dogs love tourists and may join in the fun.
