Once among the most important port towns in America, Baltimore – or 'Bawlmer' to locals – is a city of contradictions. On one hand it remains something of an ugly duckling – a defiant, working-class, gritty city still tied to its nautical past. But in recent years Baltimore has begun to grow into a swan – or, more accurately, gotten better at showing the world the swan that was always there, in the form of world-class museums, trendy shops, ethnic restaurants, boutique hotels, culture and sports. 'B'more' (another nickname) does this all with a twinkle in the eye and a wisecrack on the lips; this quirky city spawned Billie Holiday and John Waters. Yet it remains intrinsically tied to the water, from the Disney-fied Inner Harbor and cobblestoned streets of portside Fell's Point to the shores of Fort McHenry, birthplace of America's national anthem, 'The Star-Spangled Banner.' There's an intense, sincere friendliness to this 'burg, which is why Baltimore lives up to its final, most accurate nickname: 'Charm City.'

With that being said, the Baltimore Running Festival is the place to be!!

Join us at the event that many are calling one of the best races on the East Coast. With five distances to choose from, and all runners snagging a great Under Armour shirt for participating, this event is for you! You won’t want to miss the Baltimore Running Festival!

Course highlights

Marathon

The fair yet challenging course travels through the many diverse neighborhoods including the scenic Inner Harbor waterfront area, historic Federal Hill and charming Fells Point. The route also travels through the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore right past the penguin exhibit who will undoubtedly be dressed in their tuxedos awaiting your arrival. Miles 16-20 of the marathon route have been compared to Boston’s famed “Heartbreak Hill” but runners are rewarded with a loop around Lake Montebello providing runners with some relief and flat terrain. The final 5 miles are mostly downhill and boast some of our most friendly spectators who have been known to hand out gummy bears and open their homes for bathroom emergencies. Then it is back downtown to an inspiring finish through Camden Yards ballpark, home of the Baltimore Orioles. Runners finish on Raven’s Walk in the shadows of M&T Bank Stadium, home of the Baltimore Ravens.

Half Marathon

The half-marathon start line is a party on the shores of Baltimore’s famed Inner Harbor, the 13-mile mark of the marathon. Complete with a live band and 11, 000 of your new best friends, this unique set up allows for the fastest marathoners and those attempting to qualify for Boston to pass and assures that the marathon champion will be the first to cross the finish line for the LIVE television coverage on WBAL-TV. The half-marathon will split from the marathon at Pratt Street and merge later in the race with marathon. From that point, marathoners and half-marathon participants will run the same course to the finish line.
