Aderire 261 Women's Marathon and 10K
Kathrine Switzer calls women globally to challenge themselves on International Women’s DayThe Palma de Mallorca tourist board has announced the second annual 261 Women’s Marathon, the only women’s marathon in Europe, will take place in the city in April. This is the annual edition of this pioneering 26.2 mile road race, which is designed to encourage women to take on the marathon distance, and sees participants tackling a scenic waterfront course through the streets of the Mallorcan capital.
The race is both inspired and backed by Kathrine Switzer, the iconic female marathon runner and first woman to officially run the Boston Marathon back in 1967, where she was famously attacked mid-stride by a race official who tried to tear off her bib number: 261. Switzer eluded the official, kept her number and finished the race, and has since gone onto make huge steps for women in sport. “261” has subsequently become a number to symbolise fearlessness and it inspired the creation of the 261 Women’s Marathon launched by the innovative sports agency, Sports Marketing Management (SMM), in Madrid.While encouraging women’s running is at the forefront of what the race sets out to do, men are still invited to join the race, particularly those who wish to accompany and support their female friends or partners.
Punti salienti del corsoThe start and finish line shall be located in Parc de la Mar, just behind the iconic Cathedral of Palma de Mallorca, the course is fast and flat combining loops and turns throughout.

You must be 18 years old or older to participate in the marathon event and 16 years old or older to participate in the 10K and Half Marathon events. Parental permission is needed if you are not 18 years old on race day.
Postazioni di Pronto Soccorso
There are drink stations every 5 kms , always located on the same side of the circuit and organised in the following order: personal supplies, water and sports drinks. There will also be wet sponges available. The drinks stations are 100 meters long to avoid crowding and collisions. We recommend you hydrate from the first station, it’s a hot climate and is in your best interest.
The deadline to complete the Marathon course will be 6 hours; 4 hours for the Half Marathon event, and 1h 40 min for the 10K race.
Individual times are taken using the chip you wear on your running shoes. After finishing the race the information will be available on the results page at www.261wm.com Remember we give you your chip with your race number and that you have to return it in working order to the designated area.
