Course details
Unlike all our other distances, the VMM 100 miles is not held every year. In 2025, there will not be a VMM 100 miles.
Welcome to the hardest run in Vietnam! This is a seriously tough, but also extremely beautiful 100 miles ultra marathon that covers every type of terrain the Sapa area has to offer. The race begins in the heart of Sapa town. You will head northwest of Sapa across the beautiful Suoi Ho valley (home village of Black Hmong people) on a route unique to 100 mile runners.
100 km
This is a seriously tough ultra marathon that covers every type of terrain the area has to offer. You need to be an experienced, capable mountain runner to complete this course within the cut-off time. The race begins in Sapa town. This means you can expect crowds to be cheering you at the start line before you run into the night. The route then continues over Ham Rong Mountain. You will pass some remote Hmong villages with panoramic views of the valley.
70 km
This is an extremely hard ultra-trail marathon covering all types of landscapes of the Sapa mountain range. The 70km route begins in Sapa town center. Your route starts with a climb up to Ham Rong mountain above Sapa. If you have good legs, the following descent is a sheer joy, especially in the dry; in the wet however, it can be challenging. In the dry, much of it is runnable and the views are incredible.
50 km
Welcome to our tough, but spectacularly beautiful and rewarding 50km ultra trail. With 2,800m of gain, this is a race for those who truly love the mountains. The course starts in the middle of Sapa where you can expect a huge atmosphere. The race kicks off with a short, flat section to Sapa’s lake. You then climb out of town, before dropping down into the hidden valley of Suoi Ho.
21 km
This Half Mountain Marathon is very hard. The race starts in Sapa town. After a small loop, the route goes uphill across the Ham Rong Mountain giving you incredible views from early on in the course. You will see beautiful valleys, local ethnic minority villages, streams, forest and high mountain views.
10 km
Beginning with beautiful views of the Muong Hoa valley, the course first gently climbs through the ethnic Hmong area of Su Pan. A single-track trail then traverses the hillside, before you climb the famous Mount Silverstone. This is the last peak of all VMM distances, with incredible mountain views, made more special by the sound of our local flute players. The climbing is now done. From here it is downhill and flat to the finish line at Topas Ecolodge, where you can celebrate your successful completion of the VMM 10km together with your fellow mountain runners! We think this is one of the hardest 10km mass participation courses you can find in the world, so we hope you feel ready! Be sure to know the race profile: the 10km has almost zero flat running, so prepare to do some serious climbing and descending. You should all feel very proud when you get the medal at the finish, particularly if this is your first mountain run.

How fit and experienced do I need to be?
You should be prepared for a long day on your feet and practice being in the mountains, whether that is hiking or running. You must be able to look after your own nutrition especially if you take on the ultra marathon 70km, 100km, or 100 miles. Make sure you are comfortable with good footwear and carry the right clothing to put on if it rains or turns chilly.
When can I get the GPX (GPS) file?
This is sent 1 week prior to the race.
What kind of shoes/clothes should I bring during the race?
Trail shoes. The specific brand and model depends on individual choice, but the shoes should be for off road trail running, not road shoes. For clothing, the mountains can be very hot, or cool and wet, so you need to be prepared!
