The elevation gain was challenging in the first half but you make up a lot of time coming down in the second half.

For the half marathon the heat was a real factor this year, so the late and crowded start was felt extra hard. Anyone running this distance should be prepared for warm conditions and plan their hydration accordingly. I had originally signed up for the full marathon, and given the conditions I think the organisers made the right call to cancel it runner safety has to come first. I switched to the half and, despite a tough personal day (a demanding work week with long hours on my feet had left me tired), I still genuinely enjoyed it. Once underway the route was pleasant. Starting on time and spreading runners out more would make a big difference for the half.
