The United Kingdom is filled with marathon adventures from city to city. Although no longer run, the UK was home to the Polytechnic Marathon, one of the longest and first run marathons in the world. Luckily there are many other iconic races still in existence. From the Edinburgh Marathon, which is known as the fastest, to the Purbeck, which has been labeled the most scenic, there are hundreds of races to take in.
Rich in culture, marathon runners can try their hand at the Beatles-infused RunLiverpool Marathon down Penny Lane, or get a glimpse of the infamous Nessie at the Baxter’s Loch Ness Marathon in Inverness. No shortage of ways to see the countryside, there are half, full, or even ultra marathons to partake in while seeing the many historic sites.
