Hosted by the cities of Miami Beach and Miami, Florida, in addition to the county of Miami-Dade, is the Miami Marathon. It is one of the quickest growing marathons in the United States. Beginning just over a decade ago, it attracts world-class runners from around the globe. Running along the magnificent Miami skyline; each mile is more spectacular than the one before it. Not uncommon, seeing your favorite celebrity racing by, happens frequently.
Open to runners from novice to expert, it also a Boston Marathon qualifier. That means if you have aspirations to race in the famous Boston Marathon and train hard, the Miami Marathon can get you athletically where you want to be. Starting in 2008, every year it seems to pick up more steam and attract a larger audience. Becoming a favorite in a very short time, The Miami Marathon is one to add to your marathon calendar for sure.
Course highlights
Beginning on Biscayne Boulevard next to the American Airlines Arena (home of the Miami Heat), the course takes runners eastbound on the MacArthur Causeway, past cruise ships docked at the Port of Miami, to South Beach. From there, competitors travel northbound along the famous Ocean Drive, through the City of Miami Beach, and then westbound along the Venetian Causeway and back to the mainland and the City of Miami. Here, the Miami Half Marathon finishes and the full marathon continues southbound through the financial district, Brickell, into Coconut Grove, out the Rickenbacker Causeway towards Key Biscayne, and then back through Brickell and downtown Miami to complete the 42.195 kilometres (26.219 mi) at Bayfront Park.The race information has been found on the official website of the event or through publicly available sources.
