Dutchess County Classic Half Marathon

Quick facts

Distance Half marathon

Date 15 September, 2019

About Dutchess County Classic Half Marathon

The rolling hills of rural and suburban southern New York State welcomed more than 500 runners in the half marathon alone at the annual running of the Poughkeepsie Journal Dutchess County Classic.

Described by past participants as a low-key race without lots of spectators, the race featured a new course, moving from its previous location in Wappingers Falls to nearby LaGrangeville.

With its mostly flat terrain with a few hills along the course, the race reveals the changes that the area (which lies about 75 miles north of New York City) has experienced over the past several years, as what was once rural countryside has increasingly given way to suburban neighborhood development. There are still plenty of pastoral views along the course, though, as the race crosses creeks and runs past Sprout Creek Farm on Lauer Road.

The course then continues past Stringham Park to the finish line at LaGrange Middle School.
