ASICS Stockholm Marathon is an exciting race in a beautiful city with runners from all over the world. This is one of the major sporting events in Sweden with hundreds of thousands of spectators along the route cheering the participants.

The race takes you through Stockholm, one of the world’s most beautiful capitals. Built on 14 islands around one of Europe’s largest and best-preserved medieval city centres, the Swedish capital is superbly positioned, with stunning and extremely varied scenery in every direction.

At the finish, in the classical 1912 Olympic Stadium, enthusiastic fans greet the runners. The Olympic Stadium has been the site of numerous memorable athletic performances, with no less than 83 officially recognised world records in track and field. There is no other arena anywhere in the world that comes close to that number. The race will finish in the world famous stadium built for the 1912 Olympic Games. 

The 1912 Olympic Stadium is truly a classic venue for athletics.The Marathon Expo, the Pasta Party and the Post Race Celebration are traditional parts of the event, bringing all the runners together in a joyful atmosphere. With almost 7,500 international runners from more than 90 countries the ASICS Stockholm Marathon is also a multicultural festival.

Water, soda, coffee, snacks, fruit, hot dogs, beer and Maxim Recovery Drink, to help you refuel and recover. Free massage and footcare service for tired bodies.

Aid Stations

Medical personnel will be in attendance at the start and finish areas and at each refreshment station along the course.

Award Medals

Each runner who finishes the race in less than 6 hours will receive the unique ASICS Stockholm Marathon medal. Every year the medal features different Stockholm landmark.

Equipment Storage

Clothing Drop-off area at ”Östermalms IP”. Use the plastic kit bag you will get at the registration.

Registration / number bib collection at Runners Expo will be held at Danicahallen at "Östermalms IP".


Refreshment stations are positioned about every third kilometre (about every 2 miles) along the route. Water and sports drinks are served.

On race day, public transport is free for runners, courtesy of SL, Stockholm Public Transport. You just show your number bib or registration card when you enter the underground, local bus or local train.

The course passes buildings such as the Royal Palace, the City Hall, the Royal Opera, Västerbron bridge and the Houses of Parliament. The course is one of the most scenic in the world.


It is basically a two-lap course through the central parts of Stockholm. The surroundings vary from the woods of the Royal park "Djurgården" to the streets of a big city. The course passes buildings such as the Royal Palace, the City Hall, the Royal Opera and the Houses of Parliament. The course is one of the most scenic in the world. 

Much of the race is run along beautiful waterways. When passing the "Västerbron" bridge, the runners will enjoy a fantastic view over a city with buildings ranging in age from the medieval times to the present day. The difference in altitude between the highest and the lowest point of the course is 29 meters.

Start just outside the Olympic Stadium and finish inside the beautiful arena. The first lap is 16.6 kilometers, the second lap 25.6 kilometers.

ASICS Stockholm Marathon Trivia

The book The Ultimate Guide to International Marathons (1997), written by Dennis Craythorn and Rich Hanna, ranks the Stockholm Marathon as the best marathon in the world.

The weather conditions are extremely varied from year to year. From sunshine, blue skies and +30 degrees Celsius in 2008 to heavy rain, ice cold winds and 5 degrees Celsius inn 2013.
