Join X-WATERS Montenegro 2025
X-WATERS Montenegro 2025 is a part of the X-WATERS World Championship 2025, featuring a unique town-to-town swim in the stunning Kotor Bay, the southernmost fjord of Europe. Participants will swim from Perast to Risan (4.5 km) or complete a loop from Risan to Perast and back to Risan (7 km). The bay offers warm, calm waters and breathtaking views of both the bay and surrounding mountains. The swim courses pass between two notable islands: St. George, home to a Benedictine abbey, and "Gospa od Škrpjela" (Our Lady of the Rocks), the only artificial island in the Adriatic. This island, constructed by the people of Perast using shipwrecks and stones as a form of "tax" from passing ships, symbolizes resistance against Kotor's dominance. The Church of the Mother of God on the island is a key attraction in the bay.
Course details
4,5 k Participants gather in the starting camp at the Risan beach. Then they will be delivered by bus to the starting point in Perast. They start from the beach. After the start, the participants will move towards the islands. They swim between the islands, turn and make a full round around Our Lady of the Rocks island and swim towards the finish. The finish is at Risan beach.
1 mile (1852 m) Participants will start at Risan beach from the starting camp. They will move in a triangle passing buoys on the left (the buoy should appear on your right). Start and finish are in the same place.
500 m & X-JUNIORS 500 Participants will start and finish at Risan beach. The course is a simple loop marked by buoys, ensuring a safe and enjoyable swim. Ideal for beginners or those seeking a shorter, relaxed distance.

Wetsuit rules
at water temperatures above 24 degrees - the use of neoprene wetsuits is prohibited at all distances; • when the water temperature is above 18 degrees - the use of wetsuits is allowed at all distances; • if the water temperature is below 18 degrees, the use of neoprene wetsuits is mandatory, at distances over 3 km, the use of full neoprene wetsuits is mandatory; • if the water temperature is below 16 degrees - the use of neoprene full wetsuits is mandatory, changes in distances are possible up to cancellation; • if the water temperature is below 14 degrees, there may be changes in distances up to cancellation, the use of neoprene full wetsuits and neoprene helmets is mandatory.
