Lake Wörthersee in Austria hosts one of Europe’s most scenic and energetic running events: the Wörthersee Marathon. Starting from the Klagenfurt lido, participants can take on the full marathon distance. The marathon completes a unique loop around the turquoise waters of Lake Wörthersee, offering a mix of hilly terrain along the southern shore and flatter segments for a dynamic experience. For those seeking a shorter challenge, the half-marathon traces the picturesque Süduferstrasse to Velden, ending at the Schlosshotel Velden. Walkers are also welcome to circumnavigate the lake at their own pace. Highlights include cheering zones, on-course catering, medical care, and lively post-race festivities at the Runner’s Beach Club. All finishers receive a commemorative medal. The event is officially part of the World Athletics calendar.
