Morcote Scal

The fifth edition of the Morcote Scal, promoted and organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Morcote and the Carnival Association , will be held on Saturday 1 May 2027 , approximately from 1.30pm to 6.00pm .

Registration will be limited to just 100 adult participants .

After the success of the fourth edition, this year we will also be offering KidScal' , open to children aged between 9 and 12 .

A spectacular race through the narrow streets of Morcote and up the magnificent monumental staircase leading from Piazza Granda to the Church of Santa Maria del Sasso. This non-timed , knockout race will test even the strongest runners. 420 steps of history and breathtaking views!

The heats will be drawn from the 100 registered runners. The 20 heats will consist of 4 or 5 runners. The top 2 in each heat will qualify for the next heat . The bottom 3 will be grouped into repechage heats. This way, everyone will have the opportunity to race and compete against the others at least twice on the steps.

The race was conceived by Pierre Derrien , a Morcote resident for over 10 years. Pierre uses this route several times a week for training and, drawing inspiration from the disciplines featured in the Olympics, decided to create a competition with the same energy. Thus was born the Morcote Scal, an uphill race in which you directly challenge your opponent right from the starting line, against the extraordinary backdrop of Morcote's " Monumental Climb ."
