About Ruggedian Shivaji Raje - Off Trail Monsoon Marathon

“ RUGGEDIAN SHIVAJI Raje ” Race is conceptualized based on Shivaji’s great escape from Bijapur’s Siddhi Johar’s seizing on the Maratha fort of Panhala. Hence, we have reserved the theme, duration and distance of the race to go hand in hand with the historic significance related to it. After all, being Shivaji is not easy!
Don’t just race with others for victory but race against yourself and for the fiery Shivaji in each one of you! Bask in the glory of a 12 hour duel with rough terrains & endurance! Let your patriotic Mavla spirit soar high & leap in the madness of an adventurous historic Race! This race will put your patience to test – mentally & physically! It’s definitely not for the faint-hearted! However, some kind words for all the participating athletes – you all will be heroes regardless of your victory; what will matter eventually is that you put up a great fight against all odds till the finish line! 

This is a solo and self-supported race, categorized in 5 km, 15 km and 42 km; participants are at liberty to choose from these options based on their physical fitness and endurance capabilities. Although this race is open for all age groups, participants should keep in mind that this is not everyone's cup of tea. They will have to maneuver through gut-wrenching hills, forests, village back-roads, thick vegetation, single track, muddy trails on a rainy foggy day!

Practicalities

Age Limit

The minimum age for entering the race is 12 plus . For 15 km and 42 km category, it is 18 +

Aid Stations

There will be no water and food station on cource. It’s a self support race.

Race Kit Includes

All you really need to finish the race is comfortable running gear, stamina and running shoes. There's plenty of additional gear available at stores but how much you buy depends on your goals and commitment.

Timing

The event will be chip timed. You will receive your chip already attached to the back of your running BIB – you do not need to do anything. The chip looks like a foam pad – do not tamper with or remove the foam pad as this will prevent your chip from working. The chip will record you as you cross the start and finish as well as at various points on the course when you run over a timing mat.

Transport

42 Km – Race ends at Pandharpani near Pawankhind and 15 km ends at Khotwadi. You can tell your friends & family to pick you up at end point or we provide transportation . A bus or truck will drop you at start point after the race is over. If you finish race early you have to wait for all participants to end. 5 km race starts & ends at Panhala

Ruggedian Shivaji Raje - Off Trail Monsoon Marathon Trivia

The Bijapur force led by Siddhi Johar laid siege as they discovered that the great Maratha warrior was at the fort of Panhala. The Maratha regiment failed at innumerous attempts to break the Bijapur siege. Finally a very audacious and risky plan was hatched and put into action. ShivajiRaje & Baji Prabhu Deshpande along with 600 raging soldiers broke the siege on the night of 12th July, 1660. This stormy, full moon night witnessed the bravery of patriots like BajiPrabhu Deshpande who solemnly pledged & fought till their last breath to save their warrior king & ensure his safety back to Vishalgadh ; eventually marked by canon volley. This display of legend, traditionand valor has carved a deep mark in our history & souls. Following the trails of this epic fight, we encourage you to come chase for victory in the “Shivaji Run”.
