Overview

Runners follow a winding out-and-back course for the race that starts and finishes within a stone’s throw of the festival at the Florence Fitness Forum — which also is the organizer for the running event — near the Florence County Library and the city’s Regency Hospital.

From there, runners follow a route with numerous twists and turns through mostly flat neighborhood streets, running past two local city parks (Timrod and Lucas Parks) in the first half of the 13.1-mile race before heading west into nearby neighborhoods for the race’s second half.

The course features some gently rolling hills, but also features an overall elevation changes of less than 50 feet, so runners can expect mostly flat or only mild changes in the terrain through most of the route. Many of the roads take runners along streets divided by medians in residential neighborhoods, with ample tree cover and plenty of green along the way.

Once runners complete the two out-and-back straightaway stretches along Madison Avenue and State Road S-21 in the race’s second half, they then make their way back around Heatherwood Circle and then make a run past Timrod Park on their way back in to the finish line.
