The Desert Classic Marathon is an Arizona original. Join in on the tradition!The marathon offers a beautiful out-and-back course and offers runners spectacular desert scenery.

The Desert Classic Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K takes runners on a long, mostly straightaway course just to the north of Arizona’s White Tank Mountain Regional Park, a 30,000-acre park filled with rugged, rocky, mountainous terrain and which lies to the west of the Phoenix metro area.

The course is lined with ample views of the majestic mountain scenery in all directions around, as well as the thrill of running through a true arid, desert climate.

Aid Stations

There will be aid stations every 2 miles.

There is a marathon and half finisher medal.

A duration of 6 hours to complete the race.

Race Kit Includes

Race packet pickup (bib with timing chip, race t-shirt) is available on race day beginning at 6:00am. There is no packet pickup prior to race day. Race t-shirts are only guaranteed to runners who pre-register and pick up their shirt before gun time.

Highlights

Thee course offers beautiful scenery of the mountains and desert.

Overview

The course follows an out-and-back route over a paved highway road leading west from the city of Surprise, with ample views of the majestic mountain scenery in all directions around, as well as the thrill of running through a true arid, desert climate. The race starts and finishes at Riverboat Village in Surprise (at 18300 West Bell Road), and the half marathon takes runners solely along the Sun Valley Parkway for 6.55 miles to the turnaround point, where runners then begin the trek back to the start following the course they have just run. It’s a long, gradual uphill to the half-way point, followed by a long, gradual downhill in the second half.

  • 30,000-acre park filled with rugged, rocky, mountainous terrain and which lies to the west of the Phoenix metro area.
  • There were only 250 entrants in the 2014 race and only 220 runners crossed the finish line.
