About NN Marathon Rotterdam
The NN Marathon Rotherdam has been the biggest one-day sporting event in the Netherlands for many years in a row with over 35000 athletes professionals inclusive. The world’s top athletes will at the start on the bustling coolsingel,alongside thousands of other runners who will also triumph,each in their own way.The marathon weekend is a wonderful blend of top sport and festival.
No other marathon in Netherlands can match the atmosphere in Rotterdam, 925,000 spectators along the course make party complete.The idea of an international marathon in Rotterdam originated in 1980. On 17 May of that year the Rotterdam Athletic Union PAC organised the national 25-kilometer championship to commemorate its 85th anniversary.The course, which was financially supported by the magazine Het Leven, went from the Nenijto-sintelbaan to Nieuwerkerk aan de Ijssel and back. In 1937 the race was considered to be the national championship.

Practicalities
Age Limit
NN Marathon Rotterdam: 20 years. 1/4 Marathon Rotterdam: 14 years. AD City Run Rotterdam: 12 years. NN Kids Run 2,5 km: 10-15 years. NN Kids Run 1 km: 7-12 years.
Aid Stations
Refreshment stations: All care stands along the course provide sports drinks and water. After the finish, you will also be offered tea. There are aid stations every 5 km along the route. Every aid station has water and AA Drink Iso-Lemon. Every station is sign posted 200 m and 100 m in advance by means of yellow signs on the right-hand side of the road. Water is distributed via the unique drinking system Smart Drinking.
Award Medals
After crossing the finish line, all participants will receive a medal as a souvenir of the event. You can also have your medal engraved with your name and finishing time. After the event, you can view your personal finish video and photos and download a certificate.

The start and finish are infront of the Town Hall on the coolsingel. The course ic considered to be the fastest course in the world based on the ten fastest times ever run in a marathon. The course is run on completely tarmac.The starting shot is traditionally fired by cannon.
NN Marathon Rotterdam Trivia
- On 23 May 1981 the new Marathon Rotterdam experienced its christening literally and figuratively. On that day the heavens opened up and it rained cats and dogs. Fewer than 200 runners stood ready on the Boszoom at 15.30 hrs. Rotterdam owes the then 24-year old Scot a million thanks. Following an impressive solo he arrived at the Coolsingel after six rounds through the Kralingse Bos 2.09.28 later. Graham's time was so astonishing (the third in the world that year) that the Teletext service of the Dutch broadcasting service NOS dared to suggest that the distance might not have been measured correctly! Graham's achievement, rewarded with 750 British Pounds, immediately put Rotterdam on the marathon map.
- The idea of an international marathon in Rotterdam originated in 1980. Cor Vriend, Barry Kneppers and Bram Wassenaar stood on the Coolsingel medal podium as numbers one, two and three respectively.
- Every year the organizers provide a fast, traffic free, safe and running friendly course. The course in Rotterdam has already proven itself with fast times. After 3 world records (Carlos Lopes in 1985, Belayneh Densamo in 1988 and Tegla Loroupe in 1998) Felix Limo ran the fastest time ever on Dutch soil in 2004. He crossed the finish in a time of 2.06.14 (course record Rotterdam). In 2008 William Kipsang broke the course record in 2.05.49. Duncan Kibet broke this record in 2009 by crossing the finish in 2.04.27, the fastest time worldwide in 2009. In 2010 ran Patrick Makau also on this course the fastest time worldwide: 2.04.48.
