Welcome to one of the world’s ultimate outdoor playgrounds, bursting with opportunities for adventure amid diverse and inspiring landscapes.

Hiking (known as ‘tramping’ here) may be the South Island’s classic adventure, but there are far racier ways to immerse yourself in its landscapes. Raft down the tumbling Buller or Rangitata Rivers, or kayak around the coves of the Marlborough Sounds, Abel Tasman or Fiordland. Scare yourself silly with Queenstown’s gravity-defying menu of bungy, paragliding or skydiving, or mount a mountain bike to wheel through the stunning scenery along the Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail. During winter, go snow crazy on the ski fields around Wanaka, Queenstown or Mt Hutt. This is South Island, New Zealand, Home to the Majestic Ultra Easy 100k Sky Run.

The Ultra Easy 100k Sky Run is a 100km loop, starting at Albert Town Tavern, running over Mt Iron, Roys Peak, Mt Alpha, Little Criffel and joining the marathon course to go over Mt Pisa – about 47d00m of climbing and descending.

Course highlights

From the Albert Town Tavern (300m above sea leavel). Start off with a warm up over Mt Iron (548m) then long and gentle through Wanaka and around the lake to the Roy’s Peak car park and your first aid station… then you start to climb. You’ll be getting to the top of Roys Peak (1578m) around sunrise, dawn is long so there will be plenty of light from 5am. Down a wee bit then across and over Mt Alpha (1630m). Now you have a long downhill down the Spots Creek track to the Caradrona valley and your second aid station! Cross the road and the cardrona River then up the Little Criffle DOC Track to the top of the ridge at 1341m. Now you head south to Bob Lee hut (3rd aid station) and follow the Marathon course over Mt. Pisa (1963m 4th aid station) and down to the bottom of the hill and the Lake McKay woolshed and aid station number 5. below the Wanaka airport, from here you hop onto the Clutha River track all the way back to Albert Town Tavern.
