The Spectacle, a destination running event in Nelson, New Zealand, brings together rugged backcountry trails and fast electric road racing in a single weekend. Trail runners tackle technical terrain like steep climbs exposed ridgelines dense forests and remote tracks before flowing back towards the city carrying the mountains’ story with them.
Uniquely, the festival blends these trail experiences with a road programme set entirely within Nelson’s CBD creating an atmosphere where wilderness endurance meets urban energy. The efforts of athletes event staff volunteers and supporters culminate in a shared celebration in the city’s heart. This includes the Elite International Mile featuring top-level racing on the streets and a live performance from a New Zealand band.
The Spectacle offers more than just a race; it’s a journey from wild landscapes to city streets. It’s anchored in local culture community and a powerful sense of celebration.

What is the cancellation/refund policy for this event?
If you need to withdraw you can choose to either refund your entry (as per the refund schedule below) on the current policy or transfer your entry to someone else. Withdrawals submitted up until midnight 31st August 2026 will receive 50% refund of the entry fee paid. Withdrawals submitted between 1st September 2026 and midnight 31st October 2026 will receive 25% refund of the entry fee paid. Withdrawals submitted after midnight 31st of October 2026 will receive no refund. Entry transfers between individuals are available until 11.59pm on the 1st of December 2026. No deferrals will be accepted beyond those related to pregnancy and postpartum. Transfer your entry to someone else: All Person to Person transfers will incur a $25 transfer fee. Person to Person transfers accepted up until 11.59pm (NZ Time) on 1 December 2026. Entrants can only transfer their entry to someone else within the same distance event already entered.
