After leaving Santiago Comaltepec, we will venture into Tepetotutla, a community that has harmoniously coexisted with jaguars while emphasizing the importance of water conservation. We’ll reach our campsite after navigating through dense and ancient forests, to enjoy hearty meals and a well-deserved rest. As the sun sets, we’ll be serenaded by a chorus of unique native birds. This mountainous terrain boasts an extraordinary variety of bird species, including the majestic pheasant. We’ll spend the night in our “million-star” tents, immersed in the enchanting ambiance of the cloud forest.

What fitness level do I need to join this experience?

keyboard_arrow_down

This is an intermediate-level route (challenging but not extreme) suitable for active people who are not necessarily athletes. It’s designed for hiking, though running is allowed only if a guide considers it safe. The highest point is 3,460 meters above sea level. Children are more than welcome if they’re used to physical activity, nature, and group settings (please contact us in advance).

Is there cell phone service? Can I make calls or connect to Wi-Fi?

keyboard_arrow_down

Please note that phone signal and internet access will be limited throughout the trip due to the remote nature of our destination. Our team carries radio communication equipment and knows the few spots along the route where coverage is available for emergencies. Service is generally intermittent, so we recommend taking care of any important matters before departure. If you ever need stable service urgently, our guides can arrange transportation to a connection area, as long as it does not compromise the group’s safety. This additional transport is not included in the trip cost.

Can I join if I’m vegan or vegetarian?

keyboard_arrow_down

Yes. We can absolutely accommodate vegetarian and vegan diets. You will have a space to indicate any dietary restrictions or preferences during the booking process, and we recommend doing so as soon as you book or well in advance of the trip.

How many bags should I bring? Do I have to carry them during the hikes?

keyboard_arrow_down

Ideally, you should consider bringing three pieces of luggage: Small strap hiking backpack with waist and chest buckle for the hike. (maximum 30 liters) for essentials like water, hat, rain jacket, and snacks. A medium sized bag for all your change of clothes and sleeping bag, but we suggest it not be excessively big since space in the transport is limited. Finally, a bag for the porters to carry your belongings for the night at the campsite. We recommend a “stuff sack” or “dry bag”, but if you don’t have one, a simple fabric bag works fine. Don’t worry, we will make sure everything stays dry and clean during the transfer. You will not have to carry the second or third bag. The experience logistics team will handle transporting and placing everything at each of the campsites where we sleep.

Do I need to have travel insurance?

keyboard_arrow_down

We do not include travel insurance in the cost of the experience, but we highly recommend having it. During the booking process, you will find a space to provide your insurance company and policy number so our team has it on hand in case it is needed.
