Acerca de Race 13.1 Durham, NC

Durham is a once-gritty tobacco-and-railroad town whose fortunes collapsed in the 1960s and have only recently begun to revive. Though still fundamentally a working-class Southern city, the presence of top-ranking Duke University has long drawn progressive types to the area and Durham is now making its name as hot spot for gourmands and artists. With that being said, The Race 13.1 Durham Half Marathon is the place to be.

With North Carolina’s mild winter temperatures, this December half marathon, 10k and 5k race will be a great way for any runner to close out the fall race season and stay focused on training through the Thanksgiving holiday!

Durham’s Northgate Mall

In addition to expecting the usual first-class racing experience Race 13.1 offers across its 20-race series, runners should be prepared for some holiday fun throughout the course, including plenty of Santa Claus hats, jingle bells, drumlines and festive music!

Home to Duke University, Duke Gardens, the Durham Bulls baseball team and the Durham Performing Arts Center, the No. 4 ranked theater in the country, Durham and the surrounding Research Triangle Park offers plenty of sites to see and activities to do throughout the weekend.

In addition to the shops and restaurants Northgate has to offer, runners and spectators will want to take advantage the restaurants and eateries that gave Durham the title “Tastiest Town in the South” by Southern Living.

The race will start and finish at Durham’s Northgate Mall, which will allow for plenty of easily accessible parking close to the start/finish line. The flat course will feature Duke University’s beautiful East Campus, the scenic Ellerbe Creek Greenway, the Museum of Life and Science’s trail loop while looping through the city’s quant, eclectic neighborhoods.
