Acerca de Pocatello Marathon

The start is on Crestview Rd. at the top of the Buckskin Saddle. The USA T&F Certificate: ID08002DCR. Times on this course can be used as qualifying times for Boston and New York Marathons.

The elevation drop over the entire course is approximately 1,550 feet. The first half drops approximately 1,400 feet, and then the second half only drops about 150 feet. Don’t go out too fast during the first half of the course, your quadriceps will be very unhappy and they will let you know it late in the race. Pace yourself during the first half and make sure to do some downhill training if possible.

Sponsored by Portneuf Medical Center, the Pocatello Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K & 5K features point-to-point courses for both full and half-marathon participants, also called “Running the Gap” by the race organizers.

The Pocatello Sports Committee is a diverse group of people from the community looking to promote amateur sporting events in the Pocatello area.  We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.  As such, any contributions to our organization are tax deductable.

Any proceeds from our events are funneled back into the local community.

The course takes runners through this southern Idaho city known as the “Gateway to the Northwest,” famous as a stop for pioneers, gold miners and early American settlers traveling the Oregon Trail.

Along the race course, runners can take their minds off the challenging hills with the views of the southern Idaho mountains off in the distance, as they make their way through the small nearby communities of Inkom and Portneuf on their way toward the finish in Pocatello.

For full marathon participants, the race offers a steep drop in elevation throughout the course, from 6,100 feet above sea level to just above 4,400 feet by the finish. Runners in the half marathon join the race at the midpoint of the full, 26.2-mile marathon on Old Highway 91, and encounter hills between miles 3 and 5 and miles 7 and 9.

After the 10th mile, the route begins a slowly sloping downhill toward the finish line in Pocatello at Lower Ross Park.

The race finishes just a stone’s throw south of the campus of Idaho State University, and runners can expect plenty of water and aid stations especially along the race’s last several miles as the course levels out toward the finish.
