Set for its annual running, the Hero Run Half Marathon and 5K race also features a one-mile fun run and walk, all three of which will take runners through the streets and rolling country roads of this small town in southern Illinois, which lies just a short drive east from nearby St. Louis.
The race is named in honor of and designed as a benefit for the Wounded Warrior Project, which helps severly injured veterans returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to make the transition to civilian life, by providing programs that help soldiers heal both physically as well as mentally and emotionally, and help them prepare for careers in civilian life and stay connected with one another after their tours of duty have ended.
