RESUMEN

MARATHON

Awaiting the starter’s gun on the Gold Coast Airport Marathon start line is one of the most exciting and daunting experiences you’ll ever encounter. The positive yet nervous energy emitting from more than 5,500 marathoners builds an unforgettable atmosphere that is unique to this race.

Before you set off on your 42.195 kilometre journey, a rousing motivational speech from Australia’s greatest marathoner and event ambassador, Rob de Castella, will precede the national anthem. Rob will tell you that what you’re about to encounter will be the hardest thing you’ll most likely ever do. But he’ll also guarantee that the reward of finishing will outweigh the pain, discomfort and sacrifice you have endured to stand on the start line.

When the gun fires, you’ll start to make your way south. During the first kilometre, you’ll pass hundreds of friends, family and supporters who will be showering you with words of encouragement. Enjoy the views of the beautiful Broadwater as you cross Southport Bridge.

Enjoy the iconic points along this famous part of Australia’s coastline – Main Beach, Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Mermaid Beach and Miami before rounding the turn at picturesque Burleigh Heads. Continue north as you make your way past the Race Precinct to the northern turn at Runaway Bay. Then it’s less than five kilometres until you reach the Gold Coast’s famous finish chute, the finish line and personal glory.

HALF MARATHON

The ASICS Half Marathon is one of Australia’s premier running events, providing both an avenue for those making the step up in distance and a stage for frequent half marathoners to strut their stuff on an a world-standard course.

Starting at the Race Precinct in Southport, the course traces the picturesque Broadwater, providing views of Wavebreak, Ephraim and South Stradbroke Islands. Enjoy the sights as you run to Paradise Point along the flat and fast terrain.

Give yourself a small reward as you run through 10.55km and around the northern turn. Enjoy the thrill of heading for home as you once again take in the water views and the buzz of being half way there.

Cross the Loders Creek Bridge and you’ll know it’s only one kilometre until the end. Soak up the atmosphere created by your fellow runners and the crowd support as you reach the finish chute and ultimately your goal of the finish line.

RESUMEN

You’ll start to make your way south to Burleigh Heads. Over the four, five and six kilometre points you’ll pass through Surfers Paradise. The course remains flat during this stage of the race with minimal deviations. You’ll soon make a sharp right turn as you head towards the seven kilometre sign near Broadbeach. After running through Old Burleigh Road you will come out onto Broadbeach Boulevard at the eight kilometre mark. Upon reaching the 10 kilometre mark you will head down Hedges Avenue or Millionaires Row with a small incline/decline. A very slight right will take you onto Albatross Avenue. Just after the 13 kilometre mark you’ll come to the end of Marine Parade and you will make a sharp right down Hythe Street. Next is the Gold Coast Highway. As you reach the 17 kilometre mark you’ll experience a few turns as you take a left onto Kratzmann Avenue and then a sharp right back on to the Gold Coast Highway. As you come towards the 30 kilometre mark, you’ll make a left down Waterways Drive and approach the Southport Bridge. You will experience a small incline/decline on the Gold Coast Highway as you pass the Race Precinct. After the 34.5 kilometre point you’ll continue heading straight on Marine Parade for approximately two kilometres before turning right onto Bayview Street. As you approach the Race Precinct, take a slight left into the redeveloped Gold Coast Aquatic Centre and head straight to the finish chute.
