Galveston’s Saengerfest Park, Strand
The full marathon is 2 lap of the half marathon loop course.
From the race starting and finish line area at the Galveston’s Saengerfest Park, the course takes runners along a single loop out towards Seawall Boulevard, which was built in the early 20th century to protect the city and its inhabitants following the historic Galveston hurricane of 1900, which cost an estimated 6,000 to 12,000 people their lives.
Runners will get to see several miles of the seawall, which still stands today after a beating from storm surge caused by 2008’s Hurricane Ike. After heading down along Seawall Boulevard toward Fort Crockett Seawall Park, runners then turn around and head back along a stretch of the route they’ve just run, back northeast along Seawall Boulevard toward Menard Park.
After about two more miles along the wall, the course next takes runners toward East Beach Drive, where they turn right and head toward the seashore. The course follows East Beach until reaching Apffel Park Road, where runners turn left and follow the road until they meet up again with Seawall Boulevard, where they turn left and then stay on that road until they hit the intersection with Broadway, where they turn right for roughly the last mile and a half or so of the race.
