Acerca de Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run

Disarmingly blending sophistication and earthiness, Scotland's biggest city has evolved over the last couple of decades to become one of Britain's most intriguing metropolises.

At first glance, the soberly handsome Victorian buildings, legacies of wealth generated from manufacturing and trade, suggest a staid sort of place. Very wrong. They are packed with stylish bars, top-notch restaurants, hedonistic clubs and one of Britain's best live music scenes. The place's sheer vitality is gloriously infectious: the combination of edgy urbanity and the residents' legendary friendliness is captivating. This is Glasgow, home of the Great Scottish Run.

The Great Scottish Run is a series of mass-participation road running events, held annually in the streets of Glasgow, Scotland in October. The event began as a full marathon in 1979, but later changed to a weekend of shorter events. The weekend now includes short events for children, a 10K roadrace, and a half marathon. The 2013 event, which was sponsored by the Bank of Scotland, featured over 30,000 competitors. It is the largest mass-participation sporting event in Scotland.

The decision to take on 13.1 miles should not be taken lightly; it requires a good level of fitness and a dedication to training. The rewards for your hard work in the build-up however, are all worth it! The course will once again pass many of the iconic venues that feature in Scotland’s biggest city, including Nelson’s Monument, the Clyde Arc and the Finnieston Crane.
