Über St. Croix Scenic 50

What better way to see this gem of the Caribbean than to run over its rugged mountains and along its stunning shoreline?

Since it’s inception in 2010, the St. Croix Scenic 50 has been as challenging as it is beautiful. The scenic 50 mile race course takes runners up heart pounding climbs and quad screaming descents in the tropical winter heat.

The St. Croix Scenic 50 offers both Individual and Team Relay events, so if your not ready to run a full 50 miles you can have a two to four person relay team. The Team Relay divides the 50 mile course into four legs (approximately 11.9 miles, 11.8 miles, 11.8 miles, and 14.5 miles long) to be run by a 2 to 4 person team, using the top of ‘The Beast’ and the Turn Around Aid Stations as transition points. There is also a 50 Kilometer Individual event, which starts near Ham’s Bay and follows the final 31 miles of the course.

50 Mile Individual and Team Relay Events

The 50 mile course starts at the east end of Company Street and heads west turning through Times Square onto King St. and then onto Northside Road. After a few miles and the decent down Morning Star Hill the course turns onto Northshore Road briefly before beginning the ascent up Scenic Drive East. The course follows Scenic Drive (turning into dirt jeep trails) over St. Croix's beautiful mountains into the Rain Forest before dropping onto the island's western shore at Ham's Bay. Following the shoreline, runners stay on Ham's Bluff Road into Frederiksted, turning onto Strand Street to the Turn-around Aid Station next to Frederiksted’s Veteran’s Park. The course follows the same route back along the Scenic Road and up Morning Star Hill. At the top of Morning Star Hill, runners will take a left on W St. John Road towards Judith’s Fancy. Runners will follow the marked course through the neighborhoods on the back streets parallel to Northside Road and will rejoin Northside Road at Five Corners. From there the route continues to Christiansted and then proceeds through town on Kings Street then out of town on Hospital Street to East End Road finishing at The Buccaneer's Mermaid Beach.

The Team Relay Event divides this course into four legs (approximately 11.9, 11.8, 11.8, & 14.5 miles long) to be run by a 2-4 person team, using the "Top of the Beast" and "Turn Around" Aid Stations as transition points. The Team Relay Event has the same 5 a.m. start as the 50 Mile Individual Event.

50 Kilometer Individual Event

The 50 Kilometer Individual Event starts at 7:00 a.m. at the top of the Beast. Runners will head west along the Scenic Drive and drop onto the island's western shore at Ham's Bay. The turnaround will be at the Beresford Manor aid station. From here runner's follow the same route as the 50 mile course and finish at The Buccaneer's Mermaid Beach.
