If you’re interested in tackling the 13.1-mile course at the Coda Coffee Estes Park Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K & 5K, then you’ll need to be really ready for a high-elevation run — this race has the highest paved marathon route anywhere in the United States, with an average elevation of 7,785 feet above sea level.
Held in June every year around Father’s Day, the race also unfolds through some of Colorado’s most beautiful scenery, with lots of with wooded, tree-lined stretches, grassy open meadows and views of towering mountain peaks like nearby Longs Peak and Mount Meeker.
The Estes Park Marathon and Half looks forward to celebrating this annual event of incredible mountain racing with you! There is plenty to be thankful for and celebrate in Estes Park and surrounding Rocky Mountain National Park. Our race courses offer some of the worlds most spectacular views and outdoor experiences. Our community has a long history connecting visitors with nature’s beauty and inspiring healthy lifestyles. Whether you are visiting us throughout the seasons or just for our amazing destination race, we welcome you to one of the most scenic places on earth!
The best way we can describe this race is to say the Estes Park Marathon is an athletic journey you will never forget! As with all great journeys, the beauty will inspire you to overcome physical challenges, psychological hurdles, and celebrate all that is good about being active and alive! Everyone who crosses the finish line expresses appreciation and recognizes their accomplishment.
The marathon and half marathon courses are certified by USATF, which assures the handful of Boston qualifying times reached each year.
Course highlights
START LINE is directly in front of the Estes Park Middle School building. Runners will head west and turn left onto Manford Ave until orange cone at the Fairgrounds entrance. Runners will run east back up to start line and pass through school area to Brodie Ave turning left. Runners will enter the bike path at Brodie Ave to Lake Estes tunnel, turn right (east) at bike path. Runners will proceed on south Lake Estes bike path and continue along the path to Mall Road. The trail takes a left off Mall Road and takes you across Wapiti Meadow to the Olympus Dam, the lowest point on the course (7420 feet). Continue around Lake Estes, past the golf course and through the coned Visitor Center parking lot to Big Thompson Avenue (Hwy 34). Stay on road shoulder running east up a steep hill and turn left onto Elk Trail Court. From Elk Trail Court, the course winds through an open residential area that is mostly flat to downhill. Turn Right onto Lone Pine Drive and then take a left onto North Lake Avenue, which is a downhill road paralleling Hwy 34. Turn left onto Dry Gulch Road (Sombrero Stables). The course climbs gradually for 3 miles and turns south onto Devils Gulch Road. The course is mostly downhill to mile 23, except for a 1/4 mile steep uphill after mile 21. Mixed terrain takes you past the Stanley Hotel and down to Hwy 34. At Steamer Drive and Hwy 34, marathoners will turn left and run along shoulder heading east to Elk Trail Court. At this intersection, runners will begin their second loop of Dry Gulch road to Devils Gulch road, to MacGregor Ave to Stanley Hotel and down Steamer Drive/ Hwy 34 intersection. Runners will cross Hwy 34 (protected) to the coned visitor center parking lot onto the bike trail around Lake Estes. The last 2 miles travels along the south side of Lake Estes, through the tunnel under Hwy 36, past the Stanley Fairgrounds and sports areas, and up to Brodie Avenue, turning right for a very short uphill before entering the Estes Park High School track and field at the SE corner. Complete less than one lap of the track counter clockwise and be greeted by enthusiastic crowds at the finish line!Bewertungen
