While no one tips for services in Oman, haggling remains common practice at markets.
Oman's crime rate ranks among the lowest in the world. Visitors can enjoy traveling the country without being hassled by the usual scam artists that loiter around tourist destinations.
Most restaurants and hotels do not serve alcohol.
You will not be permitted into the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque without the proper attire. Both sexes need to wear long-sleeved shirts and pants or skirts that cover the ankles. The mosque also requires that women cover their hair with a scarf.
This small middle eastern country hosts a surprising number of competitive marathons. The Al Mouj Muscat Marathon takes place in the nation's capital every January. Al Mouj Muscat offers several different Oman running events, including a marathon, half-marathon and a 10K race. The Omani government takes dress codes seriously. Check with other participants before selecting proper attire for Oman running races.
