Join Windermere Marathon and Half Marathon
Washington’s second-biggest population center (edging out Tacoma by about 7000 people) is a welcome break after the treeless monotony of the eastern Scablands. Situated at the nexus of the Pacific Northwest’s so-called ‘Inland Empire’, this understated yet confident city sits clustered on the banks of the Spokane River. Though rarely touted in national tourist blurbs, Spokane hosts the world’s largest mass-participation running event (May’s annual Bloomsday Run), a stunning gilded-age hotel (the Davenport) and a spectacular waterfall throwing up angry white spray in the middle of its downtown. It was also the childhood home of that famous old crooner Bing Crosby, and remains the smallest city to have ever hosted an Expo (the 1974 World’s Fair). Prepare yourself for some interesting revelations: there’s more to this modest metropolis than meets the eye.
With that being said, the Windermere Marathon is the place to be!!
As many as 1,400 runners or more cross the finish line each year — including roughly 1,000 in the half marathon alone — at the annual spring running of Spokane’s Windermere Marathon & Half Marathon, which unfolds along a beautifully scenic course that runs alongside the waters of the Spokane River.
The first 7.2 miles of the marathon runs through Liberty Lake’s upscale neighborhoods, pass Pavillion Park and well-groomed golf courses before connecting to the Centennial Trail at the Harvard Road Trailhead. The Centennial Trail follows the contours of the winding Spokane River and the views along the race route are a big part of the attraction of this race. The visible and audible Spokane River is usually flowing with white waters, thanks to the melting snows running off the nearby mountains. The exciting downhill Finish is in Downtown Spokane’s Howard Street Bridge in Riverfront Park. Join the fun at the post-race party with food, beer garden and music to celebrate your victory!
The Half Marathon starts at 7:00 a.m. in Mirabeau Park in Spokane Valley. The race route runs on the Centennial Trail, alongside the Spokane River, usually flowing with white waters from the spring run-off of the nearby mountains. The exciting downhill finish is in Downtown Spokane’s Howard Street Bridge in Riverfront Park. To celebrate your victory, join the fun at the post-race party with food, beer garden and music festival!
Water Stations are located approximately 2 miles apart with14 stations in total. All aid stations will dispense water, Ultima Electrolyte Drink and all of them will have the popular Gummi Bears. Gels will be handed out at aid station #10 located at mile 19.3 of the marathon course and mile 6.2 of the half marathon course. Full medical aid tents will be located at Mirabeau staffed by Providence/Sacred Heart doctors and, at the finish, staffed by Deaconess Hospital team of doctors. Because much of the trail is not vehicle friendly, volunteer first aid responders will be patrolling the course on bicycles. The Bike Patrol will be wearing Safety Orange Bike Patrol Jerseys. If you need assistance, they will call for medical support.
There will be 180 awards given for the top 3 in each age group category and 3 overall in the Full and Half Marathon. We will commence the awards ceremony as soon as most age groups have finished and we have the results compiled. We estimate this to be around 9:30 a.m. for the Half and 11:30 a.m. for the Full.
You will be given your gear bag at packet pickup. Please make sure to mark your gear bag prominently with your correct number on it. Both the Full and Half start lines will have a drop off area and your bag will be transported to the finish area. Please do not leave any valuables in your gear bag.
The full and half marathon courses will be officially open for 7.5 hours from 7:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. The finish line closes at 2:30 p.m.
The Windermere Full and Half will be chip timed with results posted timely at the finish area.
For Full Marathon Finishers, bus shuttle service from the finish in Riverfront Park will be provided back to the starting area in Rocky Hill Park, as needed. For Half Marathon Finishers, bus shuttle service from the finish in Riverfront Park will be provided back to the starting area in Mirabeau Park, as needed.
