What is the Sly Fox? … its a half marathon and 10K started in 2015 by the organizers of….and in it’s first year it quickly became a favorite among racers . Join us this year to find out why it’s loved by so many.

The Sly Fox 10K will begin at 7:20am and the Sly Fox Half Madness will begin at 7:00am in downtown St. Charles, IL. Our race route is a mix of flat to rolling terrain that will bring athletes through the beautiful shaded residential streets and the countryside of St. Charles. This course is designed for athletes from beginners to the experienced. Our race is very spectator friendly, offering easy to get to viewing points throughout the course. As a participant in the Sly Fox Half Madness and 10K, each athlete will receive a technical t shirt, finisher medal and a ticket for complimentary food and beer. Racers and Spectators are encouraged to stay and socialize at Alley 64 or a neighboring St. Charles establishment.

The Sly Fox Half Madness and 10K is a USATF certified race and on the Chicago Area Runners Associations’ (CARA) circuit series. This race has agreed to adhere to and uphold CARA’s Best Practices Guidelines. These Guidelines embody the highest standards for quality, safety and comfort for participants in a road race. Due to CARA’s advocacy efforts, runners in the Chicagoland area enjoy some of the highest quality road races in the country. To view the Guidelines and to learn more about CARA, visit

Aid Station support will supply runners with Gatorade and Water with porta potties located throughout the course. Aid stations for the 10K will be available at approximately miles 1.5 and 4.75. The Half Marathon aid stations will be at approximately miles 1.5, 3.5, 5, 7.5 and 10.


Awards will be given to the overall top 3 male and female finishers of the half marathon. Also, Age Group Awards will go to the top 3 finishers in the following age groups -Under 19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64 and 65. Age group and overall awards will be read when results are finalized.

Parking Garage and Parking lots- Riverside Ave and Walnut Ave (East of the River, South of Main St). Parking Lots along Riverside Ave (just East of the River, North of Main St). Street Parking within the downtown area.


We will be using the bibtag system. Timing strips will be located on the back of your race bib. Wear the bib number visibly on the chest. Do not fold or crumple your bib number or tag. Use a pin for each corner of the bib number, do not pierce the timing strip. Do not remove the foam spacer. The foam increases the detection rate of your tag. The tags do not have to be collected after the race, you can keep the bib with the tag as a souvenir.

The Sly Fox will wind you through a beautiful and rolling course through all areas of St. Charles IL. You will experience pristine Park District paths, shaded residential communities and you’ll get to experience some of St. Charles breathtaking countryside.

Prepare yourself for a scenic and challenging Half Marathon and 10K. The 13.1 Mile course will take you through downtown St. Charles, the surrounding neighborhoods and across Randall Road to experience our west side of town.


The half marathon course begins at 7:00 AM sharp in downtown St. Charles, and from there runners head west through residential neighborhoods before turning right toward Foundry Street and cutting through nearby Timbers Park. The race route gains more trees at this point, providing runners with a scenic route of the St. Charles countryside.

At around mile 4.5, the course continues north onto the Mid County Trail, veering left and northward onto the countryside of Crane Road just before mile 6. Runners return to the Mid County Trail just past mile 8, this time heading south. After mile 10, much of the path on Dean Street leading to the finish line is familiar from the first half of the course.
