The Purbeck Marathon takes place in Swanage, Purbeck and the Jurassic Coast which has spectacular history, landscapes and views. It is the main event of The Purbeck Running FestivalThe predominately off-road marathon course has around 3000 feet of climbs and is both challenging and rewarding.
The entire route has spectacular views which will help to combat fatigue. If the weather permits, there will also be stunning views of Portland, Poole Harbour and the Isle of Wight.
The course is closer to 27 miles rather than the conventional 26.2, which is why organizers dub it "more than a marathon!" However, the extra mile is the easiest bit of the course! This is a tough marathon as it is run along a number of uneven paths and hard climbs, but the scenery is worth it!
