关于 North Shore Classic

The North Shore Classic course highlights the city’s biggest attractions. We hold our races to the highest quality standards, from start to finish, course design and accuracy, emergency medical plans that exceed industry standards all in the name of your safety. Along those lines, all RAM Racing events have a USATF-certified course with a distance that has been certified for accuracy. Please note that although we’ll try our best to avoid it, the course and start time is subject to change.

Half Marathon

  • 21.097km

All half marathon finishers will score an official North Shore Classic medal commemorating their race.

Please note that a 15 minute mile pace or faster is required for both the half marathon and 5k race distances. A 15 min. mile pace is roughly four miles per hour, equivalent to a very brisk walk. If you fall below this pace, the race organizers can no longer guarantee course support. Aid Stations, medical support, portable toilets, and road closures will begin to become unavailable to participants. The local police and race organizers will ask you to reroute to a shorter version of the course, or move up onto the sidewalk where you will be required to obey regular traffic laws.

The North Shore Classic is an officially timed event using a disposable chip timing system. You'll see timing clocks at each mile marker along the USATF-certified course, as well as at the start and finish lines. Results will be posted online within 24 hours after the race.

The tree-lined streets of Chicago’s Highland Park neighborhoods are the setting for the North Shore Classic Half Marathon, which takes runners on a 13.1-mile tour of some of the areas made famous in the movies made by director John Hughes in the 1980s, including “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” “Sixteen Candles” and “The Breakfast Club,” to name just a few.

Starts and finishes in Downtown Highland Park–Park Avenue and St. Johns in the Eastside Metra parking lot. From there, the course takes participants on a counter-clockwise loop tour of the North Shore area, including the famous Green Bay Trail, Sheridan Road and Fort Sheridan.

Runners will be expected to keep at least a 13-minute-per-mile pace, as the race organizers will need to re-open the course to traffic by 12 noon.

As mentioned above, most of the race is flat with the exception of a few hilly stretches between miles five and ten, with the most significant hill occurring at about mile 9, the “Park Avenue Beach Hill.”

Following this hill, the last four miles of the race take runners again on mostly flat terrain, along the streets of Highland Park and back for the finishing lap around the track at Wolter’s Field.
