关于 Guernsey Waterfront Marathon

WELCOME to Guernsey, second largest of the Channel Islands, resting in the bay of St. Malo, only 30 miles from France and 70 miles from the south coast of England. Guernsey is not only renowned for its laid back atmosphere and balmy summer days, but now, internationally, for its marathon. Indeed, for the 2016 event, runners came from 21 different countries and 5 continents.

The Guernse Marathon is a popular race allowing runners to enjoy scenic views of this attractive Channel Island. Conditions for marathon running are ideal as the Guernsey climate is influenced by the prevailing south westerly winds of the Gulf Stream. The race has been around since 1910, but was on a seventeen year hiatus before 2009.

The race has been officially accredited by UK Athletics, to be exactly 26 miles and 385 yards. It takes runners through all10 parishes, pass fisherman’s cottages and sandy beaches, along flower lined roads and lanes, and through valleys shaded by panoplies of lofty beeches. The race offers 20 miles of stunning panoramic views of the Guernsey coastline.

The course promises runners amazing scenery.

History shows our allegiance to the British Crown, but our customs tend to be closer to those of Normandy and Brittany. Although our national language is patois, English is spoken everywhere, so you will be assured of a warm and friendly welcome.

Guernsey, an amazing blend of ancient and modern, English and French, frenetic and calm. From tourism to horticulture and now finance, Guernsey’s main industries have changed over the years, but the island itself has remained just as beautiful and exciting – renowned for its laid back atmosphere and balmy summer days.

Take a few days break and relax after the big race. There’s a wealth of history to visit, golden sandy beaches, picturesque coves and harbours.

The race starts on the waterfront in St. Peter Port. The first 1.5 miles gradually takes runners to the top of the island. From there, the course is relatively flat until the descent onto the west coast and then pass by many sandy inlets and bays and around the coastline to the finish on the Albert Pier.
