The Belgrade Marathon, also known by its original name as Beogradski Maraton, is a unique race in a special location. Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, is one of the oldest cities in Europe with over two millennia of very turbulent history, 115 wars and archaeological discoveries in the region dating back to prehistory. The Belgrade Marathon has roots in the 1910, 23 km race from Obrenovac to Belgrade. The home of Beogradski Maraton is not just about history. Since it became an important stop on the map of the Orient Express it is also a popular tourist destination. This lively city filled with culture and its fun-loving citizens will turn your marathon in Belgrade and your stay into an unforgettable experience.
The Belgrade Marathon (Beogradski Maraton) is one of the biggest sporting events in Serbia. A group of enthusiasts came up with a plan to restore the race that existed in 1910 from Obrenovac to Belgrade. The first modern marathon in Belgrade took place on May 8, 1988. The track length of the original 1910 marathon was 23 km with several checkpoints.
The track length of the 1989 marathon was 46.7 km, with the start and finish being in front of the Federal Parliament Building. Since 1990 the Belgrade Marathon has a standard 42.195 km length. The 1999 NATO bombing of Yugoslavia did not prevent the Marathon from taking place that year, and on April 17 the race was held as a metered group run. About 40 runners from nine countries crossed the finish line at 3 hours 15 minutes and 16 seconds. The runners from NATO countries were Zane Branson from the USA, and Michael Turzynski and Heinz Lorber from Germany. The latter two are also founding members of the German 100 Marathon Club. The Yugoslav Sport Society "Partizan" took it upon itself to organize the marathon.
The City of Belgrade and its departments helped organize the event. Also involved were the executive bodies of city government, the Army of Serbia, the Serbian Police, and a number of sponsors. In September 2003, Belgrade declared that the Belgrade marathon is an event of special importance for the city. The same organizers also arrange the Belgrade Race Through History, a race around the city's Kalemegdan fortress, which started in 1996.

When and where can I collect my BIB/race pack?
Location - Belgrade Fair, Hall 4 Thursday: April 16, 2026 Friday: April 17, 2026 Saturday: April 18, 2026 Race packs for the marathon (April 19, 2026) can be collected on April 16, 17. and April 18, 2026. Race packs for the half marathon and the relay half marathon can be collected 16. and April 17, 2026. Race packs for the 10K race can be collected on April 16, 17. and April 18, 2026, with race pack collection on April 18 available until 2:00 PM.
Can someone collect my race pack for me?
The participant's race pack must be collected in person at the EXPO of the 39th Belgrade Marathon upon presentation of a valid personal identification document.
Can I change the distance after I purchase a ticket?
Changes to registration details will be possible until March 1, 2026, subject to an additional fee of 600 RSD (€5). Requests for changes should be sent to support @bgdmarathon. org
What is the cancellation/refund policy for this event?
Entries are non-refundable. In case of event cancellation or postponement, all purchases will be transferred to the next possible edition of the event.
