Run to the Rock

Quick facts

Distance Half marathon

About Run to the Rock

Over 1,000 runners cross the finish line each September at the annual Run To The Rock Half Marathon, 10K & 5K, which takes runners from the Miles Standish State Forest on a course northward toward the home of the famous landmark Plymouth Rock, where pilgrims on the Mayflower landed in the early 1600s.

Now something of a local tradition in this town located about 40 miles south of Boston in the area known as the South Shore near Cape Cod, the race raises money for and awareness of Plymouth’s Boys & Girls Club After School fitness programs.

Our mission is the Boys & Girls Club of America Movement’s reason for being:

To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. The Boys & Girls Club of Plymouth will provide area youth with activities designed to build self-esteem, develop leadership skills, and promote positive life choices.

Our Vision
The Boys & Girls Club of Plymouth envisions a future in which the Boys & Girls Club Movement is a catalyst for an age in which success is within the reach of every child, and whole generations of children are inspired to a new level of civic engagement not seen since the founding of our nation.

Highlights

The 1/2 Marathon begins at DCR Myles Standish State Forest, the largest publicly owned recreation area in Southeastern Massachusetts. The area offers visitors a wide range of activities including camping, hiking, biking trails, swimming and canoeing. It is also home to our local Boy Scout camp, Camp Squanto.

Overview

The first 6 miles of the race take place within the State Forest. You begin at College Pond and head into the forest via Lower College Pond Road. The first 2 miles are closed to traffic, giving race participants time to spread out and find their pace. You'll pass camping areas and ponds as you make your way through this area. After looping through the quiet roads of the forest, you will have a brief run along Long Pond Road and then spend the next 6 miles along the back roads of Plymouth passing by open fields, farms and country stores. The final mile + takes you down the main road through town, through Stephens Field to run along the water, past the marina to finish in front of Plymouth Rock.
