Join Faxon Law Fairfield Road Races
Thousands of runners flock to the Jennings Beach area along the Connecticut shoreline each year for the annual running of the Faxon Law Fairfield Road Races Half Marathon & 5K, which have taken runners on a course along the waterfront and back every summer.
The Fairfield Half Marathon was founded in 1981 and is annually chosen by running magazines as one of the best races in America. Since its inception the event has raised funds for numerous charities. The Fairfield Fire Department and the Town of Fairfield have supported the event from the beginning providing many in kind services; from traffic and emergency services on raceday to thousands of volunteer hours by firefighters.
The Fairfield Road Races are a unique community event in Fairfield, Connecticut with a celebrated history of regional participation and broad-based community support. The races have gained national acclaim and a large international following. The half marathon (13.1 miles) and the 5K (3.1 miles) field over 6,000 runners, including international stars and runners from across the country. Several thousand volunteers and spectators line the course annually to support the runners.
The Half Marathon race started with just 200 runners has become one of the premier running events in the United States, selling out each year with 4500 participants. Accolades for the race include being two-time host of the U.S. Women’s National Half Marathon Championship, three-time host of the National Masters’ Half Marathon Championship, and routinely selected as one of the country’s top road races by Runner’s World magazine.
The Fairfield Firefighters have hosted the event from the start and have stayed true to the mission of the Fairfield Road Races: to produce a national caliber sporting event and to donate the proceeds to local charities. This event is unique in Fairfield County in terms of its scope and quality; it is highly regarded and has become nationally acclaimed. The Fairfield Road Races receive tremendous positive exposure within the community. The success of the Fairfield Road Races is attributed to the generosity and commitment of all participants – the runners, volunteers, spectators, community and civic organizations – and particularly the financial, media and product sponsors.
Course HighlightsThe Fairfield Road Races Half Marathon course was redesigned a few years ago, which starts and finishes near Jennings Beach. To reduce congestion at the starting line, the women and men have separate starting areas, and the two fields merge together by the time runners reach the first mile marker. After that, all runners share the same route for the rest of the race, and run together all the way in to the finish line at Jennings Beach. The out-and-back course for the half starts and finishes at Fairfield’s Jennings Beach, and takes runners past stately mansions as well as scenic beaches and bridges through Fairfield, Southport and nearby Greenfield Hill. The race often sells out, so runners are encouraged to sign up early to make sure they successfully gain entry to the race.
