Viaduct Trail Ultramarathon

Auf Einen Blick

Distanz Ultramarathon

Über Viaduct Trail Ultramarathon

Decades ago, huge coal trains steamed up and down these trails. Those trains didn’t turn quickly. If you can imagine those locomotives, you can navigate the rail-trail portion of the course—wide, sweeping turns and few elevation changes.

PRAKTISCHE INFORMATIONEN

Unterkunft

The most popular choice is camping on the grass of the park, near the start/finish. Additionally, the Lanesboro Borough Council has given permission for runners to sleep for a few hours on Sunday after the race. At the start, there is a gravel parking area in Luciana Park.

Versorgungsstationen

We're not charging an entry fee, so runners should expect to be self-sufficient and bring their own food, drinks, gear, and first-aid supplies. Runners and pacers should plan on supplying themselves with a about gallon of fluid for each 25-mile lap. Runners are also encouraged to bring food, drinks, and other gear to share with other runners and volunteers.

Auszeichnungen

Each runner who finishes the distance for which he or she registered earns a railroad spike. The first male and female finishers for each distance get a silver-painted one.

Lagerung der Ausrüstung

Two drop bags are allowed: one to leave at the start/finish, and one that we'll drive out onto the course, at the Melrose (7 miles from the start). Clearly label each bag with this information: Your name Start/finish or Melrose

Maximale Zeit

All runners should finish by noon on Sunday. So, both the 50- and 100-milers have 31 hours. The one hard cutoff: All runners must start their final lap by 4:00 AM on Sunday.

HIGHLIGHTS

Wildlife encountered in past Viaduct Ultras: bees, biting flies, black bears, off-leash dogs, whitetail deer, ducks, hawks, turkeys, crows, bluebirds, squirrels, chipmunks, bunnies, newts, bats, millipedes, and a skunk that mercifully let runners pass unmarked. Not yet encountered but possible: bobcats, coyotes, owls, rattlesnakes, eagles, and many others.
