Get ready to hit the pavement and pencil in the date, as Tawau is preparing to host its premiere marathon event - the Tawau Marathon! This historical event, facilitated by the collective efforts of Tawau Runners, Majlis Perbandaran Tawau, and Kementerian Belia dan Sukan Sabah, is set to be an extraordinary festivity of fitness, tenacity, and community solidarity.
Staged against the breathtaking scenery of Tawau's landscapes, this significant marathon beckons runners from all corners to partake in a memorable experience, as we unite to usher in a fresh period of sporting prowess in our endearing town.
Participate with us as we set off on this unprecedented adventure, soak in the excitement of the race, and inscribe your name into the chronicles of Tawau Marathon history.
Tawau is an hour and a half by minibus to Semporna.
Semporna, which is the gateway to dive haven in Sabah is 45 mins away by boat to the following beautiful islands:
i) Sipadan island which is listed among the world's top ten diving spots
ii)Kapalai island
iii)Mabul island
iv)Mataking island
For travelers with longer vacation period, there are express boats from Tawau to the town of Nunukan and Tarakan which is in the Indonesian part of Borneo island.
Tawau itself has got its own attractions in the form of the multi ethnicity of its population hence its cuisines as well as culture.
Since Tawau was historically ranked as one of the largest cocoa producer in the world, there is the Teck Guan Cocoa Museum and Teck Guan Cocoa village.
There is also Tawau Hills Park for nature lovers which also has 3 popular small mountains namely Mt Lucia, Mt Magdalena and Mount Maria which is fun to climb for enthusiast.
However, booking has to be made in advance as a guide and permit are compulsory.

Collection on behalf of other participant are allowed on condition the a photocopy of the registration slip and identification is produced at the collection counter.
Can I change the distance after I purchase a ticket?
Upgrading is allowed with payment of the price difference. Downgrading is also allowed with no refund of the price difference.
What is the cancellation/refund policy for this event?
No refunds will be entertained once full payment is received.
Activities in Tawau City.
Teck Guan Cocoa Museum and Teck Guan Cocoa village. Night market at Tawau Town which is held every Friday and Saturday. Visitors can come for a variety of souvenirs and street food.
