The New Bedford Half Marathon Race Committee, Inc. became the host and organizers of the annual race following a one year mentorship by the event creators and the 2009 New Bedford Half Marathon.
We are a 100 % volunteer, non-profit, community focused organization in support of both the charitable endeavors of our Parent Organization the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick of New Bedford, Massachusetts and other charitable intentions as recommended by our board.
Our Race Committee is a proud and diverse cross section of the community from within the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick, to previous race committee staff, to passionate volunteers who yearn to see this proud running tradition continue here in New Bedford. Each year we welcome people to join our volunteer effort.
The Annual New Bedford Half Marathon continues its proud tradition as a 100% volunteer, Non-Profit organization. Through our inspiring relationship with the our hosts, The Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick, we have been able to expand our charitable footprint here in New Bedford and have made an impact farther afield as well.
Your support through participation, volunteerism and sponsorship, allow us to maintain this world class event here in New Bedford!
Course highlights
The course itself – which is a single loop that’s fast and made up entirely of paved city streets – offers a number of hills, with the two most significant hills around miles 3 and 12.
From the starting and finish line on Purchase Street, the race’s first few miles feature views of the New Bedford Harbor waterfront, and then the course turns westward back into the city, past sights such as Buttonwood Park and the city’s Whaling National Historic Park, which commemorates New Bedford’s importance as “the whaling city” during the 19th century.
