Join Gaelforce West - Adventure Race 2026
The Gaelforce West is Ireland’s original and most renowned adventure race. This milestone event invites you to push your limits across a breathtaking multi-sport route through the wild beauty of Connemara. Starting in the picturesque Inagh Valley, competitors will run along scenic trails surrounded by majestic mountains, paddle across the stunning waters of Killary Fjord, and cycle through rolling valleys and remote countryside. The challenge peaks with an exhilarating mountain run up Croagh Patrick, famous for its panoramic views and demanding ascent, before the final cycle stretches towards the vibrant town of Westport.
Each stage presents its own test of endurance, with a seamless blend of trail running, kayaking, mountain climbing, and cycling. Meticulous support and safety measures are in place, and participants are reminded to respect the environment and fellow adventurers, especially during the iconic Croagh Patrick section. Experience the unmatched thrill, camaraderie, and accomplishment that come with finishing Ireland’s most historic adventure race.
Course details
From the start line at Lough Inagh Valley, you’ll follow a stunning trail past the Maamturk and 12 Ben mountains, finishing through the Coillte forests behind Killary Adventure Centre.
Stage 2: 1KM | Kayak | Killary Fjord
The run brings you to the shoreline, where you’ll take on a 1km loop across Killary Fjord in a two-person sit-on-top kayak, shared with the next competitor.
Stage 3: 0.5KM | Run | Trail & Road
A short 0.5km track and road run brings you to the bike transition area at Killary Adventure Centre.
Stage 4: 36.5KM | Cycle | Sealed Road
Leaving Killary Adventure Centre, you’ll cycle towards Leenane, through the Partry and Sheefry Valleys on the N59, and on to Liscarney before turning left for Croagh Patrick. A steady climb leads to the Croagh Patrick transition area.
Stage 5: 4.5KM | Mountain run/walk | trail
Take on the mighty Croagh Patrick. This challenging 764m climb to the summit of The Reek and back will push you to your limits.
You must stay on the designated path at all times to protect ongoing restoration work. Any deviation will result in instant disqualification. Please also remember Gaelforce does not have exclusive use of the mountain on race day - be respectful of other users.

Stage 6: 12KM | Cycle | Sealed Road
Back at the foot of the mountain, it’s onto the bike for the final stretch. Follow the sealed road to rejoin the N59, then continue towards Westport.
Drop your bike at the final transition, make the short run to the finish line - and you’ve done it!

When and where can I collect my BIB/race pack?
Local participants: Sent out by post, 9 days before the event. International competitors: Collect your Race Pack & Number at the information desk at bike drops. Friday night bike drop: from 5pm at Killary Adventure Centre or Westport skate park (transfer can be bought online for the Wesport bike drop)
What is the cancellation/refund policy for this event?
All fees and associated costs paid at the time of registration are strictly non-refundable and non-transferable under any circumstances. This applies to requests for: • Refunds of entry fees • Transfers of entry to another person • Transfers of entry to another event
