Join FIONIA Long Distance Triathlon 2027
The FIONIA Long Distance Triathlon powered by Sparekassen Danmark is a new addition to Denmark’s triathlon calendar, offering a full-distance racing experience. Organized by Triathlon Denmark, the event features a continuous route from Nyborg to Odense on the island of Funen. Participants will take on the classic long-distance triathlon challenge: a 3.8 km swim, 180 km cycle, and a 42.2 km run. The event also includes a relay option, allowing teams to share the demanding course. The triathlon is staged as an open Danish championship for Age-Group competitors, providing an opportunity for athletes across levels to compete for national titles. Developed in response to the growing demand for accessible long-distance triathlons—especially as many international events reach capacity quickly—FIONIA aims to provide a professionally managed, high-quality race environment within Denmark.
The point-to-point route highlights Funen’s scenery and unites the region in a unique endurance challenge.
Course details
The event is planned with respect for local communities, traffic conditions, and surroundings, and is carried out in close dialogue with relevant authorities and stakeholders along the route.
The swim start takes place as a beach start off Nyborg. The 3.8 km swim passes the hotels Sinatur Hotel Storebælt, Nyborg Strand, and Hesselet, after which the route returns to the transition zone at Sinatur Hotel Storebælt.
The cycling course runs from Nyborg to Odense through the Funen landscape. From the transition zone, athletes ride onto a loop of approximately 50 km, which is completed twice. On the third lap, the route exits toward Odense. Several aid stations will be available along the course.
The transition zone in Odense is located at the athletics stadium. From here, athletes run five laps of approximately 8 km on a varied route through and around the city. Aid stations and event zones will be placed along the route, and participants pass the finish area four times before finishing inside the athletics stadium at the end of the fifth lap. This provides good opportunities for spectators, family, and friends to follow and support the participants.

When and where can I collect my BIB/race pack?
Registration takes place in Nyborg on Saturday, September 5, 2026, together with check-in of bicycles.
How do I get to the race location?
Odense <-> Nyborg By car: about 25–30 minutes (about 30 km) By train: approximately 16 minutes direct between Odense and Nyborg Station By bus: approximately 45–50 minutes with direct connection There are good connections by both train and bus, and parking options at both stations make it easy to plan your arrival.
What is the cancellation/refund policy for this event?
If you are unable to participate, you have the following options: Defer your entry to 2027 for a fee: - Until 30 April: DKK 300 - From 1 May to 30 June: DKK 600 - From 1 July to 1 August: DKK 1,200 - It is not possible to defer your entry to 2027 after 8 August 2026. Partial refund of registration: - 50% refund of the entry fee – until 30 April 2026 - 30% refund of the entry fee – until 30 June 2026 No refunds are available after 30 June 2026. After this date, the entry may still be deferred to 2027 – see above. The cancellation/refund scheme applies only to the entry fee itself, not to any additionally purchased EPM licence (one-day licence) or the Sportstiming fee.
Will there be shuttle busses?
FIONIA offers shuttle buses between the swimming area in Nyborg and the finish area in Odense. Times and pick-up locations will be shared at a later date and will be included in the Race Manual.
Transport of equipment
When checking in at Nyborg you can drop off two bags: Run gear bag: for T2 (Odense) Post-race bag: given out after the finish line Both bags are transported safely for you, so you can focus on your performance.
Are wetsuits allowed?
It depends on the water temperature on the day of the competition. If it is between 16 and 22 degrees Celsius, it is permissible to use a wetsuit.
