The home of Sofia Marathon was founded thousands of years ago and today it continues to develop as the country’s cultural and economic centre. Sofia is Bulgaria’s capital and one of the oldest capitals in Eastern Europe.
Sofia has been settled for many millennia. In honour of its hot springs, which you should visit after running the marathon in Sofia, in the 8th century BCE the Thracian tribes settled here and gave the city its first name Serdika or Serdonpolis. Serdika was the favourite city of Constantine the Great (reign 306-337), who said: “Serdika is my Rome”.
When running the course of Sofia Marathon you will be able to see many historical sites and buildings. Sofia preserves many valuable monuments to its long and stored past. Visitors exploring the city’s streets can see remnants of the Eastern Gate from the day’s when Sofia was Serdika, dating from the 2nd-4th centuries CE.
The oldest church in Sofia is the Saint George Rotunda. It is thought that the church was built in the 6th century, during the reign of Constantine the Great.

Can someone collect my race pack for me?
To get the bib number of another runner, you must show his/her registration confirmation and a copy of the ID card.
When and where can I collect my BIB/race pack?
Distribution of bib numbers starts on 5.10.2023 at the office of the competition, which is located at the MARATHON EXPO in front of the Memorial of the Soviet Army in Knyazheska Garden. Opening hours: 05.10.2023 14.00-19.00, 06.10.2022 9.30-19.00, 07.10.2022 9.30- 20.00, 08.10.2022 07.00 – 9.00

Can I change the distance after I purchase a ticket?
During the marathon expo on 5,6 и 7th October 2023 . changes are possible too ,but we have to charge a fee of 10.00 BGN( 5Euro ).
What is the cancelation/refund policy for this event?
If you pay your registration fee with Credit Card, Epay or Easypay, but you can't receive your start package for some reason and you can't participate, your registration fee won't be returned.
