mozart Marathon – Austria’s most beautiful 42 kilometers

On 20 June 2020, the city of Salzburg, an UNESCO World Heritage Site and famous for its extraordinary scenery, and the Lake Fuschl and Lake Wolfgang regions will be the stage of the most beautiful trailrunning event in Austria for the ninth time. The finish of all six competitions for runners and Nordic walkers is at the Kapitelplatz Square in the Mozart city of Salzburg.

The mozart Marathon is a trail race over 42 km with 1.700 meters of positive elevation. The course starts directly in the village St. Gilgen respectively at Lake Wolfgang. The mozart Marathon leads from St. Gilgen to the beautiful Lake Fuschl. From here the route runs to the Plötz waterfall, before Nockstein and Kapuzinerberg Mountains prepare for the finish in the heart of the City of Salzburg.

Further events are the two ultra-competitions mozart 100 (108 km/5.000 m+) and mozart Ultra (78 km/4.000 m+) as well as the shorter competitions mozart Light (31 km/1.800 m+), mozart Half Marathon (21 km/750 m+) and mozart City Trail (9 km / 300 m+). The starts are in the city of Salzburg, in Fuschl and Koppl.

Course Highlights

Mozart 100, mozart Ultra and mozart Marathon start in the heart of the historical center of Salzburg, on the Kapitelplatz Square next to Salzburg Cathedral and at the foot of the Hohensalzburg Castle. From here, the course runs four kilometres flat and on paved surface towards south through the Hellbrunn Alley to the WilhelmKaufmann-Steg across the Salzach River to Elsbethen. At KM 7 you reach the Glasenbach Gorge, which is the first scenic highlight and leads slightly uphill on a beautiful trail over 220 meters of elevation. After this first considerable ascending slope you reach.

Mozart Ultra

The course is identical with the one of mozart 100 for the first 31 kilometres. The turning point of the mozart Ultra is at aid station 3 in Fuschl am See. From there you run on the northern side of the Fuschlsee Lake towards the city of Salzburg.

Mozart Marathon

The course is identical with the one of mozart 100 for the first 21 kilometres. The turning point of mozart Marathon is at aid station 2 in Hof. From there the identical route back to Salzburg for approx. seven kilometres. At the viewpoint Watzmannblick you will re-enter the course of mozart 100. Trail downhill the Kapuzinerberg Mountain Imbergstiege with view over the city of Salzburg. Finish area in Salzburg.

Mozart Half Marathon

The start of mozart Half Marathon is in the village of Koppl; after approx. 3 kilometres you will join the course of the other competitions going back to Salzburg.
