About Morro Bay Bands On The Run

Home to a commercial fishing fleet, Morro Bay’s biggest claim to fame is Morro Rock, a volcanic peak jutting dramatically from the ocean floor. It’s one of the Nine Sisters, a 21-million-year-old chain of rocks stretching all the way south to San Luis Obispo. The town's less boast-worthy landmark comes courtesy of the power plant, whose three cigarette-shaped smokestacks mar the bay views. Along this humble, working-class stretch of coast you'll find fantastic opportunities for kayaking, hiking and camping.

This will be the backdrop for the Morro Bay Bands on the Run!!

Morro Bay Bands on the Run is a half marathon, 5k, and 10k race to benefit the Morro Bay High School and Los Osos Middle School Music Programs!

This event will take you along the beautiful Morro Bay coastline. Along the course you will be entertained by different local musical groups including Morro Bay High School students and Alumni!

The Half Marathon, 10K and 5K courses have been measured by an experienced USATF measurer. The distances are accurate, however, are not certified.

It’s amazing. The race starts in the football stadium on the MBHS campus. All runners follow a course around the campus and through the Cypress Tree Tunnel that borders the beautiful central coast beach. When the runners reach the entrance to the beach the 5K runners split from the pack and proceed to the Rock and then back to the high school. The 10K and Half Marathon runners proceed in the opposite direction towards Cayucos and back.
